Mother Joseph Pariseau (1823–1902)

Religious superior

Born in Quebec, Pariseau joined the new Sisters of Providence in 1843. Pariseau and other sisters moved to Fort Vancouver in 1856 to staff a boarding school and hospital. Under Pariseau, they founded eleven hospitals in the American Northwest. She is honored with a statue for the State of Washington in the National Capitol's Statuary Hall.
