Desegregation of New Orleans Catholic schools

The opening of integrated Catholic schools at the beginning of the 1962 school year was the culmination of a long battle between proponents of desegregation, led by Archbishop Joseph Rummel, and its many ardent opponents, including three local Catholic activists whom Rummel excommunicated.
