Founding of the National Liturgical Conference

Chicago, Illinois

1944

The NLC had its roots in the Benedictine "Liturgy Days" and National Liturgical Week, whose inaugural event was in Chicago in 1940. The Conference played an important role in the liturgical reform movement through the 1960s, after which it became known as the Liturgical Conference and shifted its focus from Catholic Mass to ecumenical worship.
