Belgium-born Redemptorist priest, Louis Gillet, encouraged the founding of this new congregation in Monroe, Michigan, to serve the needs of the young state. His first recruit was Mother Theresa Maxis, who had helped to found the Oblate Sisters of Providence with Elizabeth Lange.
