Monsignor Charles Owen Rice (1908–2005)

Rice was born in New York City, later moved to Pittsburgh, and was ordained a priest for the latter diocese in 1934. He was active in organized labor and helped to found the Association of Catholic Trade Unionists. Like many labor priests, he joined in efforts to purge American labor of communist influences. Later he participated in the civil rights and ant-Vietnam War movements.
