Father Ferdinand Farmer (1720–1786)

Missionary

Born Ferdinand Steinmeyer in the German province of Swabia, Farmer ministered to the German Catholics of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Prominent in Philadelphia, where he served as a trustee of the University of the State of Pennsylvania (later the University of Pennsylvania), he also founded the first permanent Catholic congregation in New York City.
