Cardinal Francesco Satolli (1839–1910)
First Apostolic delegate to the United States
A former professor of theology and archbishop of Lepanto, this Italian prelate was charged by Pope Leo XIII with representing the Vatican in Washington, a task he fulfilled from 1893 to 1896.
