Confederate officer

Longstreet was born in South Carolina and raised in Georgia. He graduated from West Point in 1842 and later achieved the rank of lieutenant general in the Army of the Confederacy. After the war he worked as an insurance and cotton broker in New Orleans. He became Catholic in 1877.
