From "Active Participation in Chant," Caecilia, Jan-Feb 1956 (Quoted in Adoremus Bulletin, Nov 2000):

"Regarding part music, take what is possible and do it well. It is better to let Palesterina rest in peace than compel him to turn over in his grave. ."

Father Martin Hellriegel (1890–1981)

Born in Germany, Hellriegel joined Virgil Michel, OSB, and Gerald Ellard, SJ, as an early American proponent of liturgical renewal. He served in Missouri as a chaplain to Precious Blood Sisters and as a parish priest.
