Thomas A. Dooley (1927–1961)

Medical doctor, author

Born in St. Louis and trained at Notre Dame and St. Louis University, Dooley joined the US Navy's medical corps. He was assigned duty serving Vietnamese refugees and his account of his experiences, Deliver Us from Evil (1956) became a popular anti-Communist book. After discharge from the Navy amid accusations of homosexuality, he continued to work in Southeast Asia, establishing and raising money for hospitals.
