Conception Abbey and Basilica of the Immaculate Conception

Established 1873
Led by Abbot Frowin Conrad, Swiss Benedictine monks established this abbey in northwestern Missouri. The cornerstone of the Romanesque church was laid in 1883 and it was made a basilica in 1941.
