Diocese of Bardstown (Archdiocese of Louisville), Kentucky

Established 8 April, 1808

Bardstown was one of the first five dioceses in the United States (after Baltimore and created with Boston, Philadelphia, and New York) and the first west of the Alleghenies. Benedict Flaget was the diocese's first bishop. The see was transferred to Louisville in 1841.
