Mary Waters

Nurse

Born in Dublin, Waters settled in Philadelphia in 1766. On the verge of abandoning her profession of medicine, she was convinced to continue as a nurse by Fr. Ferdinand Farmer. During the Revolution, she worked tirelessly in the hospitals serving the American army, earning the praise of prominent patriot, Dr. Benjamin Rush.
